Have you ever wondered why God, the King of Heaven wanted to create sons in His image and a visible universe or
Kingdom for them on this Earth? Was He not satisfied and pleased with an invisible realm of angels and powers to
rule or maybe, as some have suggested, was He lonely or just plain bored? To understand the answer to this
question I believe you have to have some understanding of the very Nature of God. There is much about this great
awesome, self sustaining One that we do not, can not, and may never know, but He has revealed enough of Himself to
mankind to allow us to glimpse some of the magnificence of His nature and Character.
One such characteristic is that “God is Love” as stated in 1 John 4:8 “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is
love.” And 1 John 4:16 follows with “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and
he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
Please note that He does not say that He “has” love but that He “is” love. One of the obvious qualities of love is that
love has to give and share itself. In essence, love is fulfilled when it gives and shares itself. Matthew 25:34 tell us
“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation of the world: It was God’s idea to share His invisible Kingdom with His offspring which He
called mankind, and give to them His nature and characteristics.
Imagine mowing the lawn with your own little children. As they hang on to the handle, struggling to push the big noisy
machine forward you push along with them, your legs straddling their tiny little bodies, matching their footsteps. Sure
it takes a lot longer. Sure you could have done a better job. In fact you didn’t even need them at all. But—do you
remember the joy on their face? The look of satisfaction that “they had mowing the lawn all by themselves”.
Personally, nothing makes me as happy as that look on my children’s face when they have discovered that they can
accomplish something new.
Another characteristic is that He is the Creator and that Love creates. To better illustrate this principle it is easier to
think in opposites. The opposite of love is hate. Hate destroys. The opposite of destroy is to create. Love creates.
From the very beginning, God’s plan for mankind was centered in the fact that God desired to have a personal
relationship with man and vice versa. In other words IT HAS NEVER BEEN GOD’S INTENTION TO ESTABLISH A
RELIGION.
Now back to mowing the lawn. When I was really young I loved mowing the lawn with my dad (compare this with the
zeal of a brand new Christian). As I got a little older, about twelve years old, my dad made me mow the lawn (compare
this to a Christian doing things because of the law). Then as a teenager, needing money for gas for my car, I would
bargain with my father to mow the lawn (compare this with a Christian that’s looking for God’s hand instead of His
face). And finally now that I’m mature and my father’s not as able as he used to be, I look forward to mowing his lawn
for him. Not because it’s fun, not because I’m afraid of him, not because of what I’m going to get out of it, but because
I love my father and would do anything to help him. Church, that is our relationship, except that God has NOT grown
too old, we should just love Him enough to step up without His prompting!
God Bless,
