Newsletter for 2/15/07- Variables to Healing- Part 4
|
Good Morning,
Happy belated Valentines Day! Please remember that the Lord wants you to be His Valentine more than anyone else
on Earth!! He is so in Love with You that He could only express it through His actions. Words can not communicate
strong enough, the Love that He has for you and I, so He was willing to give His life to prove it! What an awesome
Lord!!
At the end of this email is an announcement regarding an opportunity for you to receive prophetic ministry this
weekend in Vancouver. Pastor Bob Hill is a friend of this ministry and has been a blessing to us for several years. In
fact, he poured some real foundation into our ministry. Thanks Pastor Bob!
Pastor Bob's church offers a Prophetic Presbytery that is right on. If you have never been to anything like this, please
allow me to explain. They have prophetic teams that have been trained and put together by their church leadership.
They will obviously be unacquainted with you but will have you individually or as couples sit down with a team for
about 10-15 minutes and begin to speak to you from the Holy Spirit. We have experienced this several times with their
teams and with teams in other parts of the country. God has been able to download very good things into our lives
through this. All of the ministry is recorded and you are given the only copy of the tape. This ministry is completely
free, but we do encourage you to bless their ministry. The details for setting up an appointment are provided at the
end of this email.
A few weeks ago, I began sharing with you a series of lessons called "The Five Variables of Healing." I would like to
continue this today by sharing Variable #4 with you.
Variable #4- Neighbors (Lack of Faith)
I have previously shared with you the first three variables and they are as follows
1. God
2. The Pray-ER
3. The Pray-EE
We have discussed how these are not the obstacles to healing, but are the variables that can manifest the obstacles.
These are the checklist that we should use if we are troubleshooting. For more on this, please see the three previous
newsletters on our web site archive (www.kingdompowernow.com).
The Fourth Variable that I would like to add are Neighbors, the people around you. Some people might wonder how
can my neighbors or those around me have an effect on my healing or God using me to minister healing to someone
else? So let's look at scripture for some examples:
Matthew 11:20-24
20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not
repent: 21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been
done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, it will be
more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to
heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it
would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day
of judgment than for you."
Please notice that Jesus rebukes the cities where it says "most of His mighty works had been done, because they did
not repent." This establishes several truths.
The first of these truths is, it is by His kindness that we come to repentance. Secondly, that He had evidently done
these mighty works in order to prove that He was indeed the Christ and that it would lead the observers to believe that
He is the Christ and hopefully repent (John 4:48, John 5:20 & John 14:11-12.) As you read the Gospels as well as
Titus 3 with this kindness in mind, you will see that this is one of the many reasons that He provided for Healing and
the other supernatural gifts for us (see Variable #1), so that we would come to repentance. However, these towns had
seen so many miracles that Jesus states that if Sodom had seen as many miracles they would have repented and still
been alive. He is stating that through the manifestation of Grace in Healing, He had given these cities a greater
opportunity than was given in the Old Testament or old covenant.
Even with this great degree of Grace that was extended through these miracles and healings, the majority of the
people continued to not embrace Jesus as the Messiah. Because of this, He curses these towns. It was not that He
could not perform any more miracles there or that they had overcome His Power. This is proven in the fact that He
had done "most of His mighty works" in these cities. Just like we discussed in Variable #3 though, He will not heal us if
we do not want to be healed. The majority of these people were in opposition to Jesus ministry. Let's look at what
happened later when He encountered someone from Bethsaida that needed and wanted Healing:
Mark 8:22-26
22 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. 23 So He took
the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him,
He asked him if he saw anything. 24 And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking." 25 Then He put His
hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. 26 Then He sent him
away to his house, saying, "Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town."
This is an amazing passage of scripture. First Jesus leads Him out of town. As we will see in another passage of
scripture, Jesus tends to remove Himself from the "unbelievers." Please allow me to define "unbelievers." These are
not people that don't believe in Jesus, because they can see Him with their physical eyes. They are not people who
believe that Jesus can't do miracles because He did some of His most mighty ones there. These are people that even
though the evidence is clearly defined in front of them, they are not going to take part. Scripture states that we will all
get the opportunity to accept Him or deny Him, whether through the kindness of miracles or by recognizing through
nature that there must be a God.
I have a friend that decided some time ago, to never argue again with someone whether God exists, because it is a
fruitless argument. However, he has decided to commit his life to getting people to accept Christ as their Savior and
Lord. God can prove Himself, He doesn't need our help. It is whether we are going to cooperate with Him, and accept
Him as Savior or not.
There is another time that Jesus ministry was effected by the majority of the inhabitants of an area:
Mark 6
1 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath
had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man
get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!
3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters
here with us?" And they were offended at Him. 4 But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his
own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house." 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He
laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went
about the villages in a circuit, teaching.
Notice in verse 3, it states that "they were offended at Him" because they were familiar with Him and yet He was doing
miracles. This didn't fit into their boxes. We see this quite often as we minister to Christians for Healing. It seems that
the people that are the most intimate with Him, have the most pre-conceived ideas as to what He can and can not do.
It seems from my experience that non-Christians are more open to Jesus doing what He has promised to do in
Scripture than believers are. This appears to be the same experience that Jesus had in His hometown. They were
possibly to familiar with Him and expected Him to only be the way that they had previously seen. However, as the
neighbors found out, their past experiences and pre-disposed ideas did not fully contain all that Jesus was and is.
How much more does this apply to us?
Let's look at one more situation that included neighbors having an effect on someone's healing:
Mark 5:35-42
35 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, "Your daughter is
dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the
ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe." 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter,
James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a
tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, "Why make this commotion and
weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping." 40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took
the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then
He took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." 42
Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great
amazement.
This is an awesome and moving testimony of the Lord's love and compassion. Which is really another one of the
reasons that Jesus ministered in the supernatural and a reason that we should be led to minister in this realm. As we
manifest the Gifts of the Spirit, it should be because of and characterized by the Fruits of the Spirit. We should love
God's people, the same way that He does.
Also in this scripture is some practical teaching on healing as well. Jesus leaves 75% of His closest disciples behind
as He goes to minister in this situation. These should be the people that should believe in Him the most. They have
given up their careers and lives to travel and train with Him. They have made Him plan A. Successful business owners
that have taken down their shingle and put up a "Closed" sign, to spend everyday with Him being mentored for
ministry. These men are seemingly committed to Him in every way. Scripture states that where our pocket book will
be, our heart will be also. These men have made significant financial investments by leaving their careers to be
disciples of this Great Teacher. Yet, Jesus leaves them behind as He goes to do this life giving miracle. Isn't this a
great opportunity for His closest most committed pupils to receive training once again?
What about the family members of this dead girl that are put out of the house? Don't these people have a vested
interest? Wouldn't they be rooting for His success more than anyone? Who wouldn't be in favor of an innocent child
being healed and especially her family members?
He does include the Father and Mother as He goes to minister though. As a parent, I know that when my children
have been sick, I would have done literally anything to see them get well. I have no doubt that these parents were in
the same condition. They obviously had some level of faith in Jesus or wouldn't have sent for Him. It's possible that
she could have been sick for a period of time and they sent for Jesus as a last resort. In fact, by the time they did
send for Him and He was able to respond, she had actually passed away. Perhaps there had been an argument
between the parents and extended family members as to whether this Jesus option was really worth pursuing. By
Jesus response when He arrived, there definitely seemed to be two different parties of people.
There tends to still be two different parties. Those that believe the facts and those that believe Truth. The facts may
be that a doctor has given you a negative report. The Truth is that Jesus still heals. We need to believe for healing
either in our own lives or for those that we minister to. It has been well over a year and a half since one of our team
members prayed for a man named Kim that had been given a fatal cancer diagnosis. Team member Rocky went to
Kim's house on a Saturday night with some of Kim's family members. Kim's bladder had been removed and he had
been given a few weeks to live by the doctors at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). On that Saturday night,
Kim was a running a fever of 106 degrees. After receiving ministry, Kim's fever broke the next day. He returned to
work as a construction worker for a paving contractor. Two weeks later, he went for a follow up at OHSU. After
scanning him several times to no avail, the doctors sent Kim home with a clean bill of health after not being able to
find cancer anyway in his body. He has been back at work, on twelve hour shifts ever since. Thank you Jesus!!
Will we be in the crowd that agrees with the facts reported by man or will we be part of the group that stands on the
promises of God? As the Gospel song asks, "Whose Report will you believe?" "I will believe the Report of the Lord!!"
As we encounter those people around us, don't get caught up in their unbelief. Stand on the promises of God. If we
are stuck in a crowd that is effecting our faith, then break free! If you are a pastor, then I encourage you to agree with
scripture and expect the Lord to move as He has said that He would. "3 For what if some did not believe? Will their
unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? 4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar."
