Does God Always
Heal?!?
Back to Newsletters
Good Morning,
About six months ago I was seated at a table in a local restaurant with some very close friends discussing healing.
“You know,” said one of my friends, “It is always God’s will to heal.”  I nodded at him as he spoke, not quite in
agreement actually, but rather in contemplation of the startling (to me) thing he’d just spoken.  “And furthermore,” my
friend went on, “God heals every time.”  WHAT!?!
It had only taken me three long years of contemplation over Jesus’ words “and those who believe will do these things
and more” (referring to the miraculous power that He has given us) to actually arrive at a point where I was stepping
out in faith and seeing the power of God through the authority of Jesus Christ being manifested in actual healings
(Why was I surprised?).  Now here were words being spoken again, words that sounded true, but none-the-less,
words that I did not fully understand.  Words that were about to stretch me again.
When I got home I turned to the Holy Spirit for clarification.  First was it always God’s will to heal?  ‘Well’, I thought,
‘God’s will is to heal; the opposite would be God willing you to NOT be healed.’  That didn’t sound right.  The Holy
Spirit reminded me that before sin entered this world there was no need for healing and that sin is the major cause of
sickness and infirmity (if nothing else we are all born into sin).  I may not be the deepest Christian in the world but I
knew that sin was not God’s will.  The Bible tells us that if an earthly father knows how to give their children good gifts
how much more our Father in Heaven wants to bless us.  So it really wasn’t hard to come to the conclusion that our
Loving Father in Heaven does not desire to look down on His beloved children and take joy in their sorrow.  So yes, I
have come to believe that it is always His will to heal.
The second point, God heals every time, was definitely harder.  I mean what Christian doesn’t know someone,
somewhere who was prayed for and didn’t get healed?  So I honestly had to give a great deal of weight to that.  Then
I thought back to the first point, that it is always God’s will to heal.  The Holy Spirit reminded me that whenever I pray
believing in God’s will, it shall be done.  So I thought, ‘you know something, I don’t recall reading about the first
church in Acts praying for healing and then preparing the people not to see any results.  What do I mean?  When you
tell people that when Jesus said “It is finished” and that “finished” included healing along with salvation and then in
the next sentence you tell them “It’ll be okay even if you’re not healed here, you’ll have that new young body when
you get to heaven.  Cause in heaven everybody’s whole.” You do them an injustice.  You are already speaking from
a place of doubt, though maybe not qualified as total unbelief. This numbers you at the very least in the category of
“ye of little faith”.
When Jesus uttered the words “it is finished” it was all finished.  Salvation was taken care of.  It is God’s will for all to
be saved.  Do we pray for salvation expecting it not to be God’s will?  Do you tell the person that came forward for
salvation that it’s okay if they don’t get saved today because in heaven everybody will be saved?  No!  We tell them
that everything needed for their salvation Jesus “finished” on the cross and that they can leave there free, that day.
Healing was taken care of. We can not either take away nor add to this.  It is finished.  We need to come to a deeper
understanding that salvation and healing are both paid for in God’s eyes.  Jesus said what difference is it if I do one
or the other.  When you pray for healing anticipating what you’re going to tell the family if God doesn’t heal, you’re
already in a place of unbelief.
You need to start praying and believing for healing the same way you do for salvation.  Whenever you see one
needing salvation lead them to salvation.  Whenever you see a brother or sister in need of healing, lead them to
healing for after all it is either “finished” or it is not. Let's begin stepping out in the Faith of the one that sent us.
