Today I would like us to consider the following scripture emphasizing the word hoped:
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in ones life. Hope is the feeling that
what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.
Hope is something that this generation seems to be short on.  This generation appears to have been robbed of all
hope or at the least they don’t expect much out of this life.  That certainly is in contrast to the “abundant life” that we
were supposed to lead.

Matthew 18:3 “And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall
not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Hope and believe go hand in hand.  Most little children are trusting and full of hope.  Think of the little boy who
waited faithfully on the curb for his dad to pick him up for his weekend visit over and over again yet his father never
shows.  His mother watching from the window, grieving inside for her young boy, pretty sure his dad wouldn’t pick him
up but not wanting to crush the boy by telling him so.  After many months have gone by the boy quits waiting on the
curb, disappointment has set in—no hope.  As long as there had been hope the boy had waited for his dad to show
up.
As a boy I dreamed often that I could fly.  Over and over again I would dream of soaring in the sky.  It was so real
that for many years I felt that it must be true.   I remember at about the age of eight I grabbed two bright orange hot
wheel tracks in each hand (they were about three feet long).  Jumping in the back of my dad’s pick-up I let the tailgate
down for maximum runway.  I took off, flapping those two plastic bright orange hot wheel tracks much like a humming
bird and……..I fell into a heap at the end of the runway.  Then I figured out the problem, (I needed to take off from a
higher position) and climbed on top of the camper trailer.  Needless to say I never flew that summer.  The point of this
little window into my younger days is to tell you I never attempted to fly again.  I never hoped to fly again—so I never
attempted to fly again.
How many of you have given up?  Accepted what the enemy has handed you.  Just  trying to get by—get through
this life.  I’ve got a secret to share with you.  God’s word tells us that “you have not because you ask not.”  Are you
not asking because you’ve lost hope?  I pray right now that our God in His mercy and grace sends hope back into
your life like a flood.  And I ask you to return to that thing you’ve given up on and pray it into existence.
