Have you ever pondered the mystery of prayer?  Why do we even pray?  What is its use?  If God is truly omniscient
as well as omnipotent why does He wait to answer our prayers before He starts to work?  Since He already knows,
why must we tell Him everything?

Philippians 4:6.  “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known unto God.”

Why is it that only those that ask—are given, only those who seek—find, and only those that knock—enter?

Matthew 7:7  “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”

And why does God say in James 4:2 “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye
fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.”?

If we understand that God never does anything against His will, then if opening doors is God’s will, why should He wait
to open it until we knock?  Why doesn’t He just give according to His own will without requiring us to knock?  Being
omniscient, God knows we need to have certain doors opened.  What advantage does God then have in us
knocking?  Would God open the door if we did not knock?  Would He rather have His will and righteousness stopped
or delayed without accomplishment because a lack of our prayers?

If this is true, then can the will of God be limited by us, mere men?   Is God really almighty?  Why does He not open
the door by Himself—why must He instead wait for us to knock?   As you see, prayer is indeed a great mystery.

Answers
The first principle of this mystery is that God’s people must pray-- before God Himself will rise up and work.  Prayer is
none other than the act of the believer working together with God.  The prayer that a believer voices on earth is none
other than the will of God in heaven being spoken.   Prayer is not the expression of our will for God to yield to our
requests and fill up our selfish desires.  It is not the forcing of God to change His will and do something He wasn’t
prepared to do.

Prayer achieves what God has already foreordained and really not a change of His will.  Prayerlessness, on the other
hand, does effect change because God will allow many of His resolutions to go suspended due to the lack of prayerful
cooperation of His people.  Scripture tells us that when God wanted to destroy the Israelites, Moses prayed and
changed God’s mind.  Though God was unhappy with them I believe it was His original will to have relationship with
them.  It’s not that Moses forced God to do something against His will by not destroying them, but rather that God
finally found someone to step in and join Him (thus changing the world forever) in agreement to His original will which
was restoration.

Matthew  18:18-19   “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and
whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall
agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in
heaven.”

This scripture clearly states the relationship between prayer and God’s work.  God in heaven will only bind or loose
what His people bind or loose on this earth.  Think of it!  All the actions in heaven governed by the actions on earth!
God takes great delight in putting all His works under the control of His people.  These words are not meant for carnal
people—they are not qualified to hear them.  We need to be careful and not pray in the flesh because this does NOT
make God an obliging puppet that we as mere people manipulate.  It’s not that we first bind something and He’s
forced to bind it.   His original will has always been to bind what the earth has eventually bound.  He’s waiting for His
people on earth to bind what He has inspired us to bind from heaven.   No wonder all creation awaits the Children of
God to rise up and be whom God has created them to be.  Is there something in your circumstance that is not of
God—BIND IT AND PRAY.  You want to see your world changed—PRAY!
